Five years have passed since the last movie. Sienna, still struggling with serious mental health issues, is spending Christmas at her aunt and uncle’s house. She finds comfort in their support and her close bond with her young cousin, Gabbie. Jonathan is busy with college, doing his best to leave the past behind. But here’s the twist—Art the Clown, who Sienna thought she’d finished off by cutting off his head, is somehow back. And this time, he’s not alone; Victoria managed to break out of the criminal asylum she was locked up in, ready to join him in causing chaos.
So now Sienna’s got to face this creepy clown again in a tale full of blood and bodies dropping like flies.
The second movie was all about the wild fight between Sienna and this evil clown guy without getting too deep into backstories but hinted at some mysterious link through drawings from Sienna’s late dad. Now, in this third flick, we get more of that battle.
This time they’re switching it up a bit—it’s Christmas instead of Halloween! But honestly? Apart from seeing Art dressed up as a whacko Santa Claus, not much else changes on how things play out plot-wise or structure-wise—you kind of know what you’re getting into here if you watched the others!
This movie centers on a girl named Sienna and her dad, an artist, but it doesn’t really explain why Sienna ends up as some kind of avenger.
At first, the scenes flip between bloody encounters with a creepy clown and moments focusing on Sienna’s struggles and her brother Jonathan’s life. There’s also a friend of Jonathan’s who’s oddly obsessed with what happened to them, though she doesn’t add much.
Once that setup’s out of the way, the movie takes off in the second half—it’s a full-on gore fest from then on! The scenes get intense, with people getting ripped apart in every gruesome way possible. One poor soul even has rats forced down their throat.
In the final showdown, Sienna faces off against the clown, Art, in a brutal fight involving chainsaws (giving off major *Texas Chainsaw Massacre* vibes) and a classic magical sword. Art might look like just another evil clown—but thanks to David Howard Thornton’s acting chops—he adds a bit of humor to his brutal killing sprees. Like lots of horror bad guys, he just won’t stay dead either!
You know how some horror movies are more about the shock factor than creeping you out? Well, this one’s got that down pat with its gnarly scenes. The real trick here is making those gory moments stand out and be kind of clever or different to really win people over.
Damien Leone’s back at it, directing like a pro. He brings all the bloody action fans are hoping for, thanks to some pretty cool special effects. Lauren LaVera definitely nails her role again, though she doesn’t have as much to work with this time around compared to “Terrifier 2.” Her big showdown isn’t as epic either. Oh yeah, there’s a fun little cameo by Tom Savini—the special effects legend himself—just popping in for some laughs. And of course, they’ve left things wide open for another sequel!
